So, you’re interested in organic farming?
So are we! In an effort to engage a larger community in the projects and daily activities of our ranch, we’ve decided to open our land to members of WWOOF, or World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. In exploring our options for expansion and exchange, an internship program seemed to rigid and friendly work parties just weren’t consistent enough. WWOOF seemed like a good mid-point, and we’re excited to welcome a volunteer work force to our farm.
I first learned about WWOOFing when I was a hitch-hiking traveler in New Zealand (in fact, I learned that the acronym stood for “Willing Workers” on Organic farms). When our itinerary strayed, or we wanted to spend some time in an area without dropping a lot of cash, we would flip open our directory (yes, one made out of paper), and call a local farm that seemed interesting. Often, it simply provided us with a destination in an otherwise rambling adventure. I met some interesting hosts, and other travelers who turned into great companions.
I’m excited to turn the page, and be the one opening my door to weary travelers and curious youth. Of course, you can be any age, from anyplace in the world, and come with any set of skills. The key to being a successful WWOOFer is your willingness to contribute.
If you’re interested in joining us here on the Lazy T, for any amount of time (within reason!), you can start by filling out our brief questionnaire, checking our schedule, or contacting us directly. Really, you should do all three!
